How does a DNA Paternity Test work?

The biological Mother and Father give half their DNA to the child. The DNA profiles are then compared to confirm if the alleged father is the biological father of the child. The analysis is based on the analysis of 16 genetic markers to provide the required reliability. If the alleged father is confirmed as the father, then the loci analysed will match in all locations and he will be included as the father. The probability of paternity can be in excess of 99.9999+% when we also include the sample of the mother in the testing. If the tested man is not the father, then the exclusion will be 100% returning a probability of paternity of 0%.

Can my test be used in Court?

There is a distinction between a legal and a standard paternity test. The legal test will require the collection of samples using strict chain of custody guidelines. The samples will need to be collected by a medical practitioner who will be responsible for verifying the identity of the persons tested and handling the sample collection process including sending the samples.
The actual result of the DNA test will not vary between the two tests since we are using the same analysis methodology. What changes is the sample collection process. The standard or peace of mind paternity test cannot be normally used in a court of law.
